Make every line specific

Most receptionist CVs describe duties. The ones that get shortlisted describe results. The rewrite adds detail you already know — numbers, scale, tools — never experience you don't have.

Junior or senior: what to put first

Applying at junior level

Show the property type and size, the systems you use and any upselling or guest-satisfaction results. Languages go near the top.

Applying at senior level

Supervisors and front-office managers should show team size, rota and training responsibility, and KPIs — upselling revenue, satisfaction scores, arrival times.

Common mistakes on receptionist CVs

  • Not naming the hotel brand or star rating.

  • Leaving out Opera or the property system.

  • Listing languages without levels.

  • No results — upsell, reviews, guest scores.

What is specific to the UAE

Name the hotel brands and their star rating — UAE hotel recruiters filter by brand family (Marriott, Hilton, Accor, IHG and others). List every language with its level; at the front desk it is often the deciding factor.

Like every CV for a UAE employer, yours should also show these details near the top — a generic Western CV leaves them out, and recruiters here filter on them:

  • Visa status — e.g. "Employment visa", "Visit visa until 12 March", "Golden visa" — or "Requires sponsorship".
  • Notice period — How soon you can start. Recruiters here shortlist on it.
  • Nationality — Customary on UAE CVs, and some roles and visas depend on it.
  • UAE driving licence — Only if you hold one — required for many field roles.
  • Languages — With a level for each. Arabic only if you can work in it.

Opening your cover letter

Two sentences that say which role, why you fit it, and one piece of proof. Recruiters decide whether to keep reading here.

I am applying for the Guest Service Agent role. I have three years at the front desk of 4- and 5-star hotels, I work daily in Opera, and I speak English, Swahili and French.

Interview questions to prepare

Questions UAE employers commonly ask receptionist candidates. Prepare one real example for each — ideally one that is already on your CV.

  1. 1

A guest arrives and their room is not ready. What do you do?

  2. 2

How do you upsell without being pushy?

  3. 3

Tell us about a complaint you turned around.

  4. 4

How do you balance the cash float at the end of a shift?

  5. 5

Which languages can you use with guests, and at what level?

One CV per application

Two receptionist ads rarely ask for the same things in the same words. The CV that gets shortlisted is the one that mirrors the ad in front of the recruiter — which is why a single CV sent to twenty jobs does worse than twenty CVs each tailored to its ad. Paste the ad and dubaicv.app rewrites your real experience around it, shows which of its keywords you now cover and which you honestly don't, and writes the cover letter.

Receptionist CV: frequently asked questions

Which property system should a hotel receptionist know for Dubai?

Oracle Opera is the one most UAE hotels list. If you have used another system, list it and say you can adapt.

Do languages matter for front-office jobs in Dubai?

Yes. English is essential; Arabic, Russian, Chinese, French and German are often requested depending on the hotel’s guests.

Should I include guest reviews that mention me?

A short line such as "named in 20+ guest reviews" works well. Do not paste the reviews themselves.
