Make every line specific
Most accountant CVs describe duties. The ones that get shortlisted describe results. The rewrite adds detail you already know — numbers, scale, tools — never experience you don't have.

Junior or senior: what to put first
Applying at junior level
Put the accounting system and the tasks you own on their own first: reconciliations, payables, VAT workings. UAE employers hiring junior accountants want someone who can run a ledger unsupervised in the software they already use.
Applying at senior level
Lead with ownership of the close, the number of entities, the financial statements you prepare and your tax filings. Supervision of other accountants and audit leadership belong in the summary.
Common mistakes on accountant CVs
Not mentioning UAE VAT or Corporate Tax when you have done them.
Leaving out the ERP or accounting software.
Writing "handled accounts" without volumes or entities.
Hiding professional exams in progress, which UAE employers value.
What is specific to the UAE
VAT and Corporate Tax are the two words that separate UAE-ready accountants from everyone else. If you have filed with the FTA or prepared a corporate tax computation, put it in the summary, not buried in a bullet.
Like every CV for a UAE employer, yours should also show these details near the top — a generic Western CV leaves them out, and recruiters here filter on them:
- Visa status — e.g. "Employment visa", "Visit visa until 12 March", "Golden visa" — or "Requires sponsorship".
- Notice period — How soon you can start. Recruiters here shortlist on it.
- Nationality — Customary on UAE CVs, and some roles and visas depend on it.
- UAE driving licence — Only if you hold one — required for many field roles.
- Languages — With a level for each. Arabic only if you can work in it.
Opening your cover letter
Two sentences that say which role, why you fit it, and one piece of proof. Recruiters decide whether to keep reading here.
I am applying for the Accountant position. I have five years of full-cycle accounting in the UAE, including month-end close, VAT returns filed with the FTA and my company’s first Corporate Tax registration.

One CV per application
Two accountant ads rarely ask for the same things in the same words. The CV that gets shortlisted is the one that mirrors the ad in front of the recruiter — which is why a single CV sent to twenty jobs does worse than twenty CVs each tailored to its ad. Paste the ad and dubaicv.app rewrites your real experience around it, shows which of its keywords you now cover and which you honestly don't, and writes the cover letter.

Accountant CV: frequently asked questions
Do I need ACCA or CPA to work as an accountant in Dubai?
Not for most accountant roles — a degree in accounting or commerce is the baseline. Professional qualifications (ACCA, CMA, CPA) become important from senior accountant level and are worth listing even when partly completed.
How important is UAE VAT and Corporate Tax experience?
Very. VAT has applied since 2018, and Corporate Tax for financial years starting on or after 1 June 2023. Hands-on filing experience with the Federal Tax Authority is one of the first things employers screen for.
Which accounting software do UAE employers ask for?
Large groups use SAP, Oracle or Microsoft Dynamics; SMEs often use Tally, Zoho Books or QuickBooks. Name the ones you use and the modules you work in.
