Applying for Jobs in Dubai from France: 2026 Guide
Turning a French CV into one Dubai recruiters shortlist, when French helps, degree legalisation, and comparing a UAE offer with a French salary.
French professionals are well represented in Dubai — in hospitality, luxury retail, finance, engineering, energy and consulting — and French companies and schools have a large presence in the UAE. But applying from France means switching more than language: the French CV and the Dubai CV follow different rules, and the job search itself runs almost entirely in English.
This guide covers what changes when you apply from France: the CV, the language question, your paperwork, the hiring timeline, and how to compare an offer with a French salary.
Your CV has to become an English, UAE-format CV
A French CV is usually one page, often with a photo, and organised around your diplomas and grandes écoles. A Dubai recruiter reads differently:
- Write it in English, even for French companies in Dubai. Most hiring managers and HR teams there work in English, and the applicant tracking system is matching against an English ad.
- Two pages are fine. Use the space for achievements with numbers, not a longer list of duties.
- Translate what your diplomas mean, not just their names. "Master's in Finance (Grande École programme)" tells a recruiter more than the French title alone. The same goes for BTS, DUT or licence professionnelle: give the level and the field.
- Your photo can stay. Photos are common on UAE CVs, so a professional headshot is fine.
- Add the UAE details French CVs leave out: nationality, visa status ("Requires employment visa"), notice period and availability date. How to word the visa line is covered in Visa Status on Your CV.
- Driving licence. A French licence can be exchanged for a UAE one without a driving test once you are resident — France is on the RTA's list of eligible countries. Mention it for field and sales roles.
Leave out the "centres d'intérêt" section unless an interest is relevant to the role, and drop the "lettre de motivation" style from the CV itself — the cover letter is a separate, shorter document.
Is French a real advantage?
It can be. Luxury brands, hospitality groups, French banks and companies with French-speaking markets in Africa often list French as an advantage, and some roles require it. French schools in Dubai hire French-qualified teachers. Put French in a languages line with your English level stated honestly — and if the ad asks for French, make sure it appears in your summary as well, because that is where a recruiter scanning the CV will look.
Arabic, by contrast, is only worth listing at the level you can actually work in.
Which sectors hire from France
- Hospitality and F&B — hotels, restaurant groups and pastry and bakery concepts value French training and service culture.
- Luxury and retail — brand, retail-management and clienteling roles, where French and English together are an asset.
- Finance and consulting — banks, asset managers and strategy firms, often with Francophone Africa coverage from Dubai.
- Energy, engineering and construction — French engineering and energy groups have a long presence in the region.
- Education — French-curriculum schools and international schools.

Notice period and availability
French notice periods (préavis) are often one to three months, and three months is common for cadres. State yours on the CV, together with the date you could start in Dubai. Recruiters there shortlist on availability, and a candidate who can arrive in six weeks often beats one who needs four months. If a rupture conventionnelle or an earlier release is realistic, you can mention flexibility in the cover letter.
Degree legalisation
For most skilled employment visas, the UAE asks for your degree to be legalised. The UAE is not a party to the Apostille Convention, so an apostille alone is not enough. For a French diploma the usual route is:
- A certified copy of the diploma (copie certifiée conforme) — degree documents are legalised from certified copies.
- Legalisation by the French Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs.
- Legalisation by the UAE Embassy in Paris.
- Attestation by the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
French-language documents may need a certified translation. Many people use a legalisation service. Confirm the current steps with your future employer's HR or PRO team, and start as soon as you are shortlisted — it takes weeks.

A realistic timeline
- Applications and interviews — usually several weeks, with two or three video rounds.
- Offer — an offer letter, then a contract registered with the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MOHRE) for private-sector jobs.
- Paperwork — diploma legalisation and documents while the employer applies for your entry permit.
- Arrival — medical test and Emirates ID biometrics, then your residence visa.
Your préavis usually runs alongside the paperwork.
Interviewing from France
- Time zones. The UAE is on GMT+4 all year: two hours ahead of Paris in summer, three in winter. The working week runs Monday to Friday.
- Salary. Answer in AED per month and say whether you mean basic salary or the full package.
- Language. Interviews are in English unless the role requires French; prepare your examples in English.
Comparing a Dubai offer with a French salary
- Salaries are monthly and quoted in AED. Personal income is not taxed in the UAE, so compare net against net.
- The package matters more than the base. Offers usually combine a basic salary with housing and transport allowances; some add schooling, flights and family medical cover.
- There is no French-style social protection. End-of-service gratuity replaces a pension: after a year of service it is 21 days' basic salary per year for the first five years and 30 days' per year after that. Check your options for health cover and retirement savings.
- Your French tax residency depends on your situation; check the rules before you move.

Where to apply
LinkedIn is the main channel, followed by Bayt and GulfTalent and specialist recruiters. French companies with UAE offices often post on their own careers pages and on LinkedIn first. The UAE also offers a job-seeker visit visa of 60, 90 or 120 days for eligible graduates and skilled professionals, but most people are hired from France and relocate after signing. Never pay for a job offer or a visa — under UAE labour law, employers may not charge candidates recruitment costs. Our guide to verifying a UAE job offer shows how to check.
Checklist before you apply from France

- Add nationality, "Requires employment visa", your préavis and an availability date to the top.

- Order certified copies of your diploma and start legalisation once you are shortlisted.
- Look up the monthly AED salary for your role in our salary guide before the first call.
- Tailor the CV to each ad, and never pay a fee for a job or a visa.
Frequently asked questions
Should I send my CV in French to French companies in Dubai?
Send it in English unless the ad is in French. The team hiring you in Dubai will usually work in English.
Is a one-page French CV enough?
Often it is too short. Two pages with results under each role work better for UAE recruiters.
Do I need to speak Arabic?
No. English is the working language in most companies; Arabic is an advantage only in some roles.
Can I exchange my French driving licence?
Yes — France is on the RTA's list for direct exchange once you are a UAE resident.
One CV per ad
The CV that gets shortlisted is the one that mirrors the ad in front of the recruiter. dubaicv.app rewrites your real experience in English around each ad you paste, adds the UAE details, and shows which of the ad's keywords your CV now covers — and which it honestly doesn't.
