Applying for Jobs in Dubai from Germany: 2026 Guide

Engineers, finance professionals, healthcare staff and technical specialists from Germany are in steady demand in the UAE, and German companies are well established there. The main adjustment when applying from Germany is the CV itself: a German Lebenslauf and a Dubai CV are built on almost opposite conventions.

This guide covers what to change on the CV, how German notice periods affect your chances, the paperwork, the hiring timeline, and how to compare an offer with a German salary.

From Lebenslauf to Dubai CV

A German application is a complete file: cover letter, a tabular Lebenslauf with a photo, and copies of every Zeugnis. Dubai recruiters expect something else:

• One document, in English. Send a CV; certificates come later, when the employer asks for them for the visa.
• Achievements, not a timeline. A table of dates and titles tells a UAE recruiter little. Under each role, write three to five bullets with results and numbers.
• Translate your qualifications into what they mean. "Diplom-Ingenieur (equivalent to MSc) in Mechanical Engineering" is clearer than the German title alone. The same goes for Ausbildung and Meister qualifications: explain the level and the field.

• Driving licence. A German licence can be exchanged for a UAE one without a driving test once you are resident — Germany is on the RTA's list of eligible countries.
• The photo is optional — common in the UAE, so keeping a professional one is fine.

Leave out Arbeitszeugnis phrasing. Its coded language means nothing outside Germany; state what you achieved directly.

Your notice period is part of your application

German notice periods for experienced staff are often three months, and sometimes run to the end of a quarter. For a Dubai recruiter that can be the difference between a call and a pass, because many roles are hired to start within weeks. Put your notice period and the earliest date you could start in Dubai on the first page. If you can negotiate an earlier release (Aufhebungsvertrag), say so in the cover letter.

Degree legalisation

For most skilled employment visas, the UAE asks for your degree to be legalised. A German apostille is not enough, because the UAE is not a party to the Apostille Convention. The usual route for a German degree is:

1. A certified copy of the degree and transcript from your university.
2. Legalisation by the Federal Office of Foreign Affairs (Bundesamt für Auswärtige Angelegenheiten), which took this over in 2023.
3. Legalisation by the UAE Embassy in Berlin.
4. Final attestation by the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The embassy may ask for recently issued certified copies, and German-language documents will usually need a certified English translation. Many applicants use a legalisation service; confirm the current steps with your employer and start as soon as you are shortlisted.

A realistic timeline

1. Applications and interviews — several weeks, with most rounds by video.
2. Offer — an offer letter, then a contract registered with the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MOHRE) for private-sector roles.
3. Paperwork — degree legalisation and documents while the employer applies for your entry permit.
4. Arrival — medical test and Emirates ID biometrics, then your residence visa.

Your Kündigungsfrist runs alongside steps 3 and 4 — the earlier you state it, the better an employer can plan around it.

Interviewing from Germany

• Time zones. The UAE is on GMT+4 all year: two hours ahead of Germany in summer, three in winter. The working week runs Monday to Friday.
• Style. Interviews tend to be less formal than in Germany, and more focused on examples and results. Prepare two or three stories with numbers.
• Salary. Answer in AED per month and say whether you mean basic salary or the full package.

Comparing a Dubai offer with a German salary

• Compare net with net. Personal income is not taxed in the UAE, and there are no German-style social-security deductions for expatriates.
• But price in what you lose. There is no statutory pension or health insurance like in Germany: employers provide medical insurance, and end-of-service gratuity replaces a pension — after a year of service, 21 days' basic salary per year for the first five years and 30 days' per year after that. Plan your own retirement savings.
• Look at the full package. Basic salary plus housing and transport allowances; sometimes schooling, flights and family cover.
• Deregistering in Germany (Abmeldung) and your tax position depend on your situation; check before you move.
