Junior or senior: what to put first
Applying at junior level
Lead with your portfolio and the software you are fastest in. Studios hiring juniors want someone who can produce drawings and visuals from day one, so show the types of project you drew for and the stages you covered, even if a senior designer led them.
Applying at senior level
Lead with the projects you owned end to end, the budgets and the client types — developers, hotel operators, private villa owners. Mention the teams and contractors you coordinated and any authority or landlord approvals you took through, because that is what separates a senior designer from a strong visualiser.
Common mistakes on interior designer CVs
Sending a CV without a portfolio link — most Dubai studios will not open an application that has none.
Listing software without showing what you produced with it.
Leaving out project scale: a "villa" and a "120-key hotel" are very different jobs.
Attaching a 40 MB portfolio PDF instead of a short link that opens on a phone.
What is specific to the UAE
Dubai design firms hire on the portfolio first and the CV second. Put a short link to a PDF or online portfolio in your header, and name project types — villa, hospitality, retail, F&B — because recruiters filter by them.
Like every CV for a UAE employer, yours should also show these details near the top — a generic Western CV leaves them out, and recruiters here filter on them:
- Visa status — e.g. "Employment visa", "Visit visa until 12 March", "Golden visa" — or "Requires sponsorship".
- Notice period — How soon you can start. Recruiters here shortlist on it.
- Nationality — Customary on UAE CVs, and some roles and visas depend on it.
- UAE driving licence — Only if you hold one — required for many field roles.
- Languages — With a level for each. Arabic only if you can work in it.
